The Race to Attract Disillusioned Brexit Voters: France and Italy Have Strengthened Their Tax Appeal
Theresa May’s government’s invocation of Article 50 of the Treaty of Lisbon on March 29, 2017, officially initiated the process of the United Kingdom’s withdrawal from the European Union.
Coupled with the tightening of the U.K.’s tax regime for “non-domiciled” individuals, this development is prompting many foreign nationals residing in the United Kingdom to explore alternative destinations available to them.
However, such cases are becoming increasingly common in Europe due to competition among countries to attract business leaders and high-net-worth individuals. France and Italy, in particular, have very recently enhanced their tax appeal by introducing tailored tax regimes.
