Scotto Partners advises
and the senior management of Loch Lomond Group on its second LBO
Following the management buy-in (MBI) initiated in 2014 by Colin Matthews, its chairman, Loch Lomond Group—one of Scotland’s most renowned whiskey distilleries—has changed hands: Hillhouse Capital, an investment fund headquartered in Hong Kong, acquired a majority stake in the group from Exponent Private Equity, while the CEO and his management team reinvested in the group.
The group, which operates in more than 100 countries, now generates approximately 70 percent of its revenue outside Scotland, compared with less than 10 percent at the time of its acquisition.
The strong partnership formed with Hillhouse Capital will enable the group to strengthen its international presence, particularly in Asia, where the popularity of whiskey has continued to grow in recent years.
Throughout this secondary LBO, the management team was advised by Scotto Partners—with partner Isabelle Cheradame, Adrien Badelon, Charlotte Hazan, and Maxime Aps handling the legal aspects—and by Deloitte on tax matters.
