The law firm SCOTTO & ASSOCIES is advising the founder of Verdesis on the company’s capital opening to the investment fund BeCapital
Paris, February 24, 2012
Verdesis, a major integrated player in Europe’s biogas and anaerobic digestion sector, has completed a €25 million capital increase following the entry of BeCapital, an investment firm specializing in equity investments in eco-innovative companies.
This investment was made in partnership with the Lombard family shareholders—including Xavier Lombard (founder of Verdesis)—and EDF Energies Nouvelles SA, the company’s largest shareholder.
Currently operating in France, the United Kingdom, Belgium, and Spain through more than 60 projects, Verdesis designs, installs, and operates energy production units that generate biogas from agricultural biomass, industrial effluents, and wastewater treatment plant or landfill waste. Verdesis is the fourth-largest player in France in the landfill biogas recovery market and is involved in the recovery of more than 70 MW of biogas for use in engines or microturbines across seven countries.
BeCapital is a €150 million investment firm whose sole purpose is to acquire equity stakes in eco-innovative companies whose technologies—technically and commercially proven—address the challenges of the Positive Economy™, with the goal of supporting their development over the medium term. BeCapital was founded by Cobepa, La Compagnie Benjamin de Rothschild, and BeCitizen, with the participation of several dozen European family investors.
As part of this transaction, our firm advised the family shareholders of Verdesis. Altra Law (Didier Leclercq) also worked alongside the family shareholders on matters of Belgian law.
EDF EN was advised by Linklaters LLP, and BeCapital was advised by White & Case LLP.
